Star Studded Finale to Concerts Penzance Season

Concerts Penzance presents the finale of this season’s performances at 7.30pm on Wednesday 24th April. The concert features three of Britain’s most sought after soloists together with the series’ founder Tim Boulton performing Mozart’s sublimely beautiful Quintet for clarinet and strings alongside duets for violin and cello by Kodaly and for clarinet and viola by Rebecca Clarke.

The visiting musicians have amassed a wealth of top awards and accolades between them.  Doubly talented clarinettist and composer Mark Simpson was just 17 years old when in 2006 he became the first ever winner of both BBC Young Musician of the Year and BBC Proms / Guardian Young Composer Competition.  The BBC commissioned him to write the opening work for the last night of the Proms in 2012.  Leading soloist, violinist Jack Liebeck has an established bond with Oscar winning composer Dario Marianelli and is featured as soloist on the film scores of Jane Eyre and the 2013 Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA nominated soundtrack for Anna Karenina.  Winner of BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2000, Guy Johnston is now firmly established as one of the leading soloists and chamber musicians today.  Guy’s deeply expressive musicality and no-fuss approach was recently described by BBC Music Magazine as ‘searchingly beautiful and accurate’.

Viola player Tim Boulton enjoyed two decades performing chamber music across the world before moving to Cornwall ten years ago.  Since then he has been very active promoting music education in Cornwall and as founder of Concerts Penzance has brought international quality chamber music to West Penwith.

Tickets costing £10 (£2 for under 19s) are available on the door and in advance from West Penwith Music, Union St. Penzance 01736 364440 and Mounts Bay Wine, Bread St. Penzance 01736 364118.
