Concerts Penzance welcome the Castalian String
Quartet to St. John’s Hall at 7.30pm on Saturday 10th December.Lead by the outstanding young Finish
violinist Sini Simonen, who stamps her persuasive musical personality on their
performances, the quartet were the only European quartet to get through to the
final stages of the prestigious Banff International Competition where they won
3rd prize this autumn.
Described in the Canadian press as ‘…like an orator who knows how to
convince with both passion and persuasion, the Castalian String Quartet makes
the simplest thing we hear into the most important thing we could ever want to
hear.’
For Concerts Penzance the
musicians present quartets by Haydn (Op.76 No.1) and Brahms (no. 3 in B flat), along with Four Quartets by Thomas Ades, the
British composer whose genius has intrigued and inspired many musicians for
over two decades.
