Endellion Quartet - Saturday 9th March, 7pm, St. John's Hall, Penzance
The Endellion String Quartet have had associations with
Cornwall for all of the quartet’s 40 years – through the quartet’s Cornish saint’s
name and a long association with the International Musicians Seminars at Prussia Cove. Concerts Penzance are delighted that the
quartet are making a special trip to West Cornwall during their 40th
Anniversary year – to perform at St. John’s Hall at 7pm on Saturday 9th
March.
When the Endellions had been around for a mere 25 years,
cellist David Waterman wrote an eloquent article about their time together (http://endellionquartet.com/after-25-years-dw)
in which he attributes their long successful career to ‘the glorious miracle of
the vast panorama of great masterpieces that is the quartet repertoire’. For their concert in Penzance the quartet
have chosen 3 of the greatest of those works – Haydn op.74 no.3 ‘The Rider’,
Bartok no. 2 op.17 and Beethoven op.131.
