Education in its widest sense is at the heart of Concerts Penzance activities, and the charity aims to 'educate the public in the art of music...by promoting concerts, talks, worksops and masterclasses...'
Concerts Penzance likes to make the most of the opportunities offered when top quality musicians visit. This season, the members of Penzance Youth String Orchestra learned much and thoroughly enjoyed working with cellist Richard Lester - the first time in the orchestra's ten years that the local group have accompanied a top class soloist and known that they must aspire to work at a totally professional level. The Castallian Quartet extend their visit to Cornwall to work with Cornwall Youth Orchestra, leading each string section in full orchestral rehearsals as well as working in detail with each of the sections individually. Thanks to Cornwall Music Education Hub for additional funding to make this possible.
In recent years the Arcadia Quartet gave an impressive concert for local schools which was very well received and really captured the imagination of the young audience. The New York based group Decoda provided a lively family concert but also provided excellent training for members of both the county youth symphony and wind orchestras. Violinist Jack Liebeck and cellist Guy Johnston have also given masterclasses to young musicians from West Cornwall.
